City of Monroe 30th Street Detention Basin Monroe, Wisconsin
This project consists of the design and construction of a regional detention basin and storm water system improvements to alleviate downstream scouring and flooding problems that occur on an unnamed intermittent tributary of Hawthorne Creek, as well as improve overall water quality for the existing Honey Creek watershed.
The duties consist of the field investigation of the drainage basin, calculation of the peak runoff from the detention basin, design of the stormwater conveyance system including open channel flow, detention basin design, outfall design with orifice restriction, permitting, plans, specifications, special provisions, bidding documents and contract administration. Computer models were utilized to determine design discharge into the system and peak discharge out of the detention basin.
Construction of the pond was accomplished by excavating the existing channel to the required size, and excavated materials were used on site as embankment to create the earthen berm. The project is in the final phase now. A dam breach analysis is being conducted and the results will soon be submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for approval.
