Adkins Energy, LLC Corn-to-Ethanol Facility Lena, Illinois
Adkins Energy, LLC is a 69 million dollar corn-to-ethanol facility with a cogeneration plant that processes approximately 15 million bushels of corn annually in Lena, Illinois. Willett, Hofmann & Associates, Inc. has been involved with Adkins’ design, building and growth since the idea was just a kernel of corn in the farmer-owners’ imaginations.
A number of ALTA / ACSM surveys were performed over the next few years as the final location of the proposed plant was determined. The survey work included a study of existing right-of-ways. Because the proposed site was close to US 20, coordination was required with IDOT to determine if the proposed ethanol plant would be in conflict with future widening (from two lanes to four lanes) and/or possible rerouting of US 20.
The proposed site was in a newly assigned TIF district and classified as Industrial Zoning. However, the Village of Lena was in the process of reclassifying the current zoning. Coordination with the Village of Lena was required to insure that the existing zoning of the proposed facility did not change during the process.
Since then, the team at WHA has done a number of construction stake-out projects at Adkins, most recently staking the route for a new railroad spur to deliver corn directly to the plant. As Adkins continues to grow, Willett, Hofmann & Associates will be there to continue to make their future expansions as efficient and seamless as possible.
