RECENT PROJECTS
Captain
Swift Bridge, Bureau County
Brain was the lead structural engineer and
project manager to design the Captain Swift Bridge, a two lane
single span (1 at 128”) burr arch timber covered bridge
supported on closed limestone formed lined abutments along with
3,500 feet of approach roadway. Brian conducted preliminary
work to determine the type, size and location of the covered
bridge structure to accompany a Major Bridge Fund application,
which was successful and the funds were received. The project
combined a 19th century design with 21st century traffic and
safety standards, and has recently been awarded a Special
Achievement Award by the American Council of Engineering
Companies of Illinois.
