RECENT PROJECTS

Captain Swift Bridge, Bureau County

Brain was the lead structural engineer and project manager to design the Captain Swift Bridge, a two lane single span (1 at 128”) burr arch timber covered bridge supported on closed limestone formed lined abutments along with 3,500 feet of approach roadway.  Brian conducted preliminary work to determine the type, size and location of the covered bridge structure to accompany a Major Bridge Fund application, which was successful and the funds were received.  The project combined a 19th century design with 21st century traffic and safety standards, and has recently been awarded a Special Achievement Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois.

Structural engineer for a three span (100’; 127’; 100’) steel plate girder (54”) bridge on RC solid piers and pile bent abutments skewed 60 degrees left ahead.

$1,200,000

Carroll County Highway Department, Wacker Road

Structural engineer for a single-span steel plate I-beam bridge with reinforced earth abutments and wings.

$600,000

Boone County Highway Department, Squaw Prairie Road

Structural engineer for a four-span (27’-3”; 34’; 34’; 27’-3”) RC slab bridge on pile bent abutments and piers.  Work completed was bridge widening and deck rehabilitation.
