Phase II & III Services

The City of Dixon hired Willett, Hofmann & Associates, Inc. (WHA) to design a new submersible lift station to replace the existing aging Smith & Loveless wet well/dry well station that serves commercial and industrial customers on IL Route 2 east of River Street which includes the headquarters and manufacturing facilities for Raynor Garage Doors. WHA designed a new duplex submersible lift station to replace the aging Smith & Loveless wet well/dry well station that was constructed in the 1975. Due to a development that occurred after the lift station was constructed, it had to be relocated. The lift station wet well was a pre-cast concrete manhole structure that was 10-foot diameter and 21.5 feet deep. The lift station construction required the installation of a cofferdam and dewatering due to sandy soil conditions and a high ground water table along the Rock River. The pumps were rated for 500 gpm and the lift station was equipped with an electrical plug-in and manual transfer switch for use with the City’s portable generator. A critical component of the project was the design and coordination of the startup of the new lift station and the connection of the new lift station into the existing forcemain to limit the amount of time the lift station would be out of service. Also, WHA worked closely with the property owner where the lift station was relocated to obtain utility and construction easements and maintain access to his business.
